Hazel Murray was
one of the best known of Sky's acclaimed team of Weather
Forecasters.
Hazel made
her name as the voice of the Flying Eye, reporting on traffic for
Capital Radio through the evening rush hour, between 1987 and 1993.
During that time she published a book of her aerial photographs of
London, 'Capital London - Focus from the Flying Eye', with anecdotes
from Tony Blackburn, David Jensen, Neil Fox, Chris Tarrant and
others.
She then moved to Sky News, where she presents the
weather with Francis Wilson and the Sky News weather team. Hazel has
attended courses at the Meteorological College at Bracknell, and
also has a first class degree in Mathematics. Although most of the
weather broadcasts are done in the studio, there are also many
outside broadcasts, especially in the summer
Hazel is
passionate about flowers and gardens and, sponsored by Sky, she
designed and built a small garden at the Chelsea Flower Show in
2003, where she and her amateur team were awarded 'Best Courtyard
Garden in Show' for their 'View To A Future' Tuscan garden, which
highlighted possible results of global warming. A year later she and
her team won Silver Gilt at Hampton Court Flower Show for 'Vineyard
Vision' based on her plot of a hundred vines, again focussing on
climate change and sponsored by Sky.
Eighteen years ago Hazel moved to Italy where she lives happily with her four dogs and two cats.
